Yeah someone tell me why a mass comm student is required to know how to draw.

And worst of all, my drawings don't even match my own descriptions!

Oh well, no Joke Of The Day because this one big joke already!

Yesterday night was Dim Sum Dollies - The History Of Singapore, with my cousin who came to visit from Malaysia.

I thought the previous show (Little Shop Of Horrors) was much better, although I won't take anything away from this one. Hossan Leong was the clear performer with his weird impersonations, as with Selena Tan, the 'char siew bao' of the Dim Sums. It was quite hilarious, nonetheless. 4/5 for me.

Finally bought my CREATIVE speakers!

Although, being a technology noob, I will still take 10 years figuring out how to use it. And with so little space left in my room, I will take another 10 years to make a trip down to Ikea and buy a small table. By then, it will become a white elephant. Bah.

Dinner at Pete's Place.

I think I shall tag Mel as all the food because she absolutely loves this place.

Joke Of The Day (NOT in office, unfortunately, for Sarah who thinks I work in a circus)

Aunty Alice: Did Fergie sing her new songs during Black Eyed Peas concert?

Jermaine: Yeah of course.

Aunty Alice: I like her songs. Bought her song 'Crazy' on itunes.

Jermaine/Jeremy: Crazy?

Jermaine: Got such song meh?

Aunty Alice: Ya, crazy.

Jeremy: IT'S CLUMSY LAH!

Haha this reminds me of Jules' joke:

Me: "Then this HUGE grasshopper landed on Prah's fringe, and I literally jumped off the parapet, screaming my head off ..."

Arthur: "I bet it wasn't a grasshopper. It was a mudhopper."

(Minutes later)

Me: "What did you say again, about the thing grasshopper that landed on Prah?"

Arthur: "It was a mudhopper."

Me: "... IT'S MUDSKIPPER, IDIOT."

HAHAHA MUDHOPPER!

WARNING: R21 POSTING AHEAD

I don't often blog about soccer, but I hope regardless of which club you support, you'll join me in sending good wishes to Arsenal's Eduardo. No one should succumb to such a horrific tackle, and I urge the FA to stamp out such violent play.

A sliding tackle from Taylor..

Photobucket

Look what happened to Eduardo's foot..

Photobucket

An immediate red card, and a mad rush to the hospital.

The FA is splanning to give Taylor a life ban from soccer.

Alam Shah was given a 1-year ban for a knee assault on Bennet that almost killed him.

Seriously, soccer is about putting the ball in the back of the net. Do we need to resort to such unscrupulous tactics just to win? What happened to sportsmanship and fair play? Are we just concerned about results that moral ethics don't play a part in sports?

NUFC.SG wishes Eduardo a speedy recovery.

Eduardo suffers horror injury at St Andrews

LONDON, Feb 23 (Reuters) - Arsenal striker Eduardo da Silva broke his left leg in the 2-2 Premier League draw with Birmingham City on Saturday, bringing a furious reaction from his coach Arsene Wenger.
The match was stopped for nearly eight minutes as the Brazilian-born Croatia international was treated on the field before being carried off on a stretcher.
Birmingham defender Martin Taylor was given a straight red card for his challenge on Eduardo in the third minute.
'The tackle was horrendous and this guy (Taylor) should never play football again,' Wenger said.
'I've seen some bad ones before but you are not always punished with a broken leg.
'The minimum is that the season is over and we're scared it is much longer.'
Birmingham manager Alex McLeish said Taylor was very upset about the injury.
'He's absolutely distraught, he's not that type of player,' he said. 'He didn't feel he made that much contact with Eduardo.'
Wenger said there was a school of thought that Arsenal could only be stopped by using rough play.
'It goes along with the idea... that to stop Arsenal, you have to kick Arsenal,' he said.
'That kind of thing was waiting to happen. It's not acceptable. If that is football, it's better to stop it.
Arsenal's players wandered around the pitch looking distraught and Sky television said they would not replay the incident because the pictures were too horrific.
Eduardo was taken to hospital and medical staff at the ground were also reported to be shocked at the seriousness of the injury.
'He is a fantastic guy and to see him in such pain and the shape of his leg was very difficult to take for our players,' added Wenger, who said Eduardo had broken his leg and ankle.
Born in Rio de Janeiro, 24-year-old Eduardo moved to Croatia aged 15 to join Dinamo Zagreb as an apprentice although he later returned home to play on loan for two seasons at Bangu, a minor club in Rio's sprawling western suburbs.
After obtaining Croatian nationality, he made his full international debut against Ireland in 2004 and is one of a number of Brazilians playing for other national sides.
Eduardo, who joined Arsenal in July, was looking forward to playing for Croatia at this year's European championships.
Television commentators drew a comparison with the injury to Coventry City defender Dave Busst, whose career ended after he suffered a compound fracture of his right leg against Manchester United in 1996.
Play was interrupted for 10 minutes before Busst was carried off and blood from his wounds was washed off the pitch.

周杰伦-2007世界巡回演唱会 (白色风车)

Friday, February 22, 2008

Yesterday marked the closure of the 15-day Chinese New Year, and for once I am so glad it is finally over.

Firstly, I can't stand all the repetitive CNY songs on the radio. Not that I have a choice of music in the office, but I would rather listen to boring Fei Yu Ching than the irritating gong-xi-gong-xi-gong-xi-ni-ah. Gong your head lah.

Secondly, I'm sick of seeing and hearing lion dance performances. In these 15 days, I've seen more lion dance than my entire 21 years in existence. I've seen it in camp, on the roads, in Century Square and - believe it or not - in Bedok Interchange food centre. Can you imagine, eating your or luak and suddenly, you hear the clash of symbals and a hideous lion prancing around like a possessed drug addict and you get so shocked that you choked on your oyster.

And for the record, lions can't dance. Animals can't dance.

For Chap Goh Meh, I was relishing a very good feast, but it turned out to be the worst ever dinner I could every imagine. We decided to try the new restaurant outside Simpang Bedok called 'Big Eater', and ironically, I'll suggest you skip that place if you are really a big eater like myself.

The service was really, really bad from start to finish. We waited 45 mins and there as no sign of our food. But, other tables that came after us had their food served already. When my aunt asked for the manager, the waiter said there was no manager. HUH. So a restaurant magically appears out of nowhere. When the supervisor came, he fought back and said it was very crowded, so we had to wait. Ok, even a blind man will know that it's crowded, don't tell me such obvious facts!

Finally the food came, and it didn't really taste so good, maybe because my whole mood was spoiled. But the elusive chilli crab never came, and we finally gave up and cancelled the crab. Just then, a plate of crab arrived from the kitchen, but unfortunately it wasn't ours. Lastly, we waited a whole 15 mins just to pay the bill.

Nuff said. 0/5. Never going back there in a million years.

Decided to watch the movie 'Jumper' !

I was caught in a big quandary because of the mixed reviews I received from people who have watched the show. And it was very extreme. On one side, Nicole claimed that it was a very good movie. But on the other hand, Adele thought it was a disaster. Which side of the fence would I be on?

Photobucket

Too bad Adele !

I thought it was a good movie, not excellent, but definitely worth my weekend movie price. And my mum thoroughly agreed as well.

As usual, Adele has different tastes from everyone!

Hayden Christensen plays the 'jumper', who could jump from one location to another, just that he wasn't really jumping but trying to be Hiro Nakamura part 2. For 88 minutes, I expected the movie to blitz through like a bullet train, but I was so wrong. The plot thickens with each minute, and I like how the fight scenes evolved, albeit it was definitely not filmed live on scene. The Pyramids in Egypt and The Colossium in Rome showcased awesome battles with his tormentor. Pity the graphics and the sound weren't very impressive, but that's the only negative I could find about the movie. Therefore this gets 4/5 for me.

Uploaded Prison Break into my ipod, now I can watch the show on-the-go !

And I'm so addicted to BOMBERMAN!

Joke Of The Day (in office)

Colleague A: Are you carnivorous or herbivorous today? (asking if he's vegetarian, like most Indians on Friday)

Colleague B: Haha, if I'm carnivorous then I will eat everyone up today.

Jermaine: Too bad, I'm OMNIVOROUS!

I am so so so so craving for another round of dim sum. Mmm. Char siew bao and siew mai and chee cheong fun and mel's favourite - Har Gao! Can't wait for Saturday.

And oh, Dim Sum Dollies are back. I'm so gonna watch them to complement all this Dim Sum madness.

Joke Of The Day (in office)

Colleague A: Hey Jermaine, Where's Jack? Thought he's coming over?

Jermaine: He's still climbing the beanstalk.

I have an uncanny sense of humour that's perfect for Whose Line Is It Anyway?

Dim Sum with Terence and 126 Geylang. Absolutely love the food there, but still cannot compare with Goodwood Park's buffet. I'll make sure I'll eat there again.

DAYANA'S 22ND BIRTHDAY
THE MANHATTEN FISH MARKET
THE CENTRAL

My first trip to this seafood joint, and honestly there really isn't much to rave about. The menu is very similar to Fish and Co, and that goes for the food as well. I wonder why neither is sueing each other.

Although I have to add, this restaurant has weird policies, like allowing us to be seated only when 80% of the pax has arrived. But apparently, the waiters all fail Maths, because we went in even with half of us only there.

And the most peculiar thing of all, when we asked for hot water to top up the tea, they said they have to boil the water first. First time I ever heard of a restaurant boiling hot water!

The present from the HTM guys

After that it was off to watch PS I Love You at midnight.

Photobucket

Released as this year's Valentine's Day movie, I don't think anyone could ask for a better movie after a horror showing of the 3 Asian flicks during the CNY period. For those of you who watched this with your date, I'm sure it must have been the best date ever. Please tell me both of you walked out in tears, if not you can kindly call the Singapore National Heart Centre for an aorta transplant. Really. Before you die of depression.

It was the return of Lisa Kudrow, best known for her role as Phoebe on Friends, and Hilary Swank from the Oscar winning show 'Million Dollar Baby'. The show's main theme is about love and death, and some similarities to other movies were somewhat evident (Think The Lake House, Secret) It moves at a rather slow pace, enabling the audience to appreciate the beautiful love story, and tugs on your heartstrings throughout. A masterclass, I must say, and a must-watch for everyone. 5/5 for me.

PS - It's a very good show!

CNY celebration lunch with the office peeps at Sakura International Buffet. I got a treat! And I thought the food wasn't so bad. Oh well, I can't help but notice the way Singaporeans behave during a buffet. It's really just tongue-in-cheek, but I see it all the time, even overseas.

Firstly, they don't queue. At all. At any station, it's straight to the food, never mind there are people actually waiting in line.

Secondly, they cannot make up their mind. They stand in front of the ice-cream cart, and scratch their head. 8 flavours in front of them, and they need to think about the perfect flavour to end the perfect meal, totally forgetting the fact it's a buffet and they can eat all 8 flavours.

Thirdly, they think it's alright to waste food, since it's one price for all. So they try to be generous and take so much food for the whole world, only to find out that the whole world has taken food for the whole world too.

BUT, BUT.. they are a creative bunch as well! I saw one young lad taking a glass of coke, then proceeding to scoop an ice cream onto the coke to make his own float! And I'm like, why didn't I think of that!?

Anyway, I'm a little baffled on the Ah Meng issue as well. Yes, ok, he/she/it has passed on, but flipping the newspaper and seeing throngs on people crying over the death of a native primate just make me feel slightly off-colour. I mean, people can feel so emotional over the passing of an orang utan but when one of their own has departed, they so wouldn't even shed a tear or feel a tinge of sadness, and this indifference bothers me. Do we need an orang utan to wake us up?

Dear laptop,

All the best for your operation tomorrow. I don't know when I'll see you again, or if I'll ever see you again, but please don't die! Please be strong and keep all my beloved photos; oh I'm sure you love them as well! Also, all my songs, you can listen to them while they dissect you but try to keep them in tact, since I paid for some of them as well! There's loads of good music, for every occassion, just go to my playlist and select okay. Oh, there's even a whole season of One Tree Hill loaded! I'm sure you wanna know what happened to Lucas right? Anyway, take care, and if you do make it back to arms, I'll promise I'll Gmask you!

Love,
jerms

CNY SHOPPING SPREEEEEE

4 months to ORD, and yet still have to buy a non-camera phone!

Thanks to the 4 yr old nokia 6100, which has gone straight to my dustbin liao. Totally unusable. But well, I think this phone is super cute, like a Primary One toy. And it's red and it's the last piece left. LOL.

Damage: $99

Newcastle United jacket, which I thought is very rare. Got it online from Malaysia, and it looks really really good. But well, can't find it anywhere else, so might as well grab it while I can.

Damage: $110

And here's bidding Iz farewell as he furthers his studies down under. Say hello to the future politician in 3 years' time !

Happy Year Of The Rat!

(Actually it may not be a good year since I don't like rats, but then again I don't all the other 11 animals as well, including my own, so there you go. We should change the animals to something else, like food. So it'll be year of the donuts, year of the nasi lemak, year of the popiah bla bla..)

Chinese New Year always brings back fond memories, and I stress, it's fond memories not forgettable memories. Even though in 2006 it was a horrid time to be hospitalised, I still made it through nonetheless and it was a very brave experience for me. In fact, compared to what my army friends rant about doing guard duties and field camps or booking in early during CNY, at least I am spared those torturous moments.

EXCEPT THIS OF COURSE............

Photobucket

This was, in my own words, humiliation and folly to the highest extreme. Can't believe I actually went to pong this combination. It was absolutely retarded, even though I had a perfectly good excuse to do so since I was almost blind that day.

Never mind, revenge this saturday !!!!

SWEENEY TODD: THE DEMON BARBER FROM FLEET STREET

Tim Burton and Johnny Depp collaborate for the 6th time, and that's the only reason why I bothered to watch this gory film, apart from the fact that I like muscials. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was a 5-star masterclass in my opinion, and I hope this movie followed similar footsteps. Alas, I was as disappointed as how the pies tasted in the show.

It wasn't as draggy as most reviews mentioned, neither was the ending rather horrendous and lame, but it was the whole concept which couldn't flow smoothly. I thought the whole idea was very innovative, but it trudged through everything like a barber on a busy day, pardon the irony. The singing was way off key as well, and that's no surprise for Johnny Depp and Helena Bohman. Otherwise, this show deserves an R21 for all the senseless killing and bloodbath, and it only gets 2/5 for me.

AH LONG PTE LTD

What movies can you expect to watch during Chinese New Year? From Jack Neo of course. Ah Long Pte Ltd tells a tale about the life of loan sharks in Singapore, and seriously I might consider splattering paint on Jack Neo's house for making me travel all the way to Orchard and paying a whopping $10.50 to bore my brains out.

There is nothing glamorous about the life of loan sharks, and there was no need to make a movie and tell the whole world that. Fann Wong and Mark Lee might have this show to thank if after today, their whole career spirall down the drain. Otherwise, I would advise everyone to continue playing ban luck and mahjong this CNY, and even if you end up losing money, at least you didn't waste your time watching this complete let-down. 0/5 for me.

Oh crap I think my blog is turning into some movie critics corner.

KL trip was a blast, although it was extremely tiring towards the end. The 2 nights of partying took a toll on all of us, left with no choice I took leave in the morning to catch up on much needed sleep. Probably the only thing missing was a camera to capture everything. Managed to get new clothes and shoes in time for CNY, so it was a good deal in the end since the things are cheaper at the other end. And there really isn't much in Singapore too. Fortunately my Dad was there to play chauffer, tour guide and had all of us crash his small rented apartment. Hopefully we'll get another trip soon!
