2 parties in a week. Officially exhausted, and still injured from the tournament.

First up was 'School's Out' party. The attire was school uniform and thanks to Aaron for lending me his set.

JOKE OF THE DAY:

Thursday, March 27, 2008

Today, all our soccer training has finally came to good use. Our long awaited tournament was played in the baking sun and glad to say we finished 2nd, losing the finals 5-4. I thought it was a good result for us, we trained hard for so many months and we put up an excellent performance, although I have to say the referee has probably never played soccer in his entire life before.

The celebrations were at the mess, and I actually made a promise to myself that I would never ever consume alcohol if the next day is a working day. Guess I had to break my 2-year promise today! Though I'm not a big fan of beer, but we all deserved a good night out and I'm not gonna spoil it. And tomorrow's Friday anyway!

It's my first and last tournament with you guys before I leave in June. I've enjoyed playing with every single one of you, and I hope you guys will win it next year!

Ok, the effects of drinking too much beer is kicking in. I'm going to bed, and I have only one simple request.

Please...do not bark tonight. Ok? Thank you.

Wednesday, March 26, 2008

We have all seen our fair shares of dumb and dumber. So who's the dumbest?

Photobucket

No, he didn't say that to the referee, but he meant that. Really.

Photobucket

HAHAHA.

Anyway, I've never thought I would say this but I'm a hardcore gamer now!

Absolutely addicted to this game!

Photobucket

LOCO ROCO!

I can play this for hours man. There's an alien invasion and I'm supposed to save all my loco roco! While I save them from the enemy, they combine to form one big loco roco and if they need to break up, I press a button and they blast into small loco roco to escape! All this, while they sing their way through the game!

AH! I need to stop playing this on my way to work or I'll miss my stop!

It's Wednesday night and I realised I haven't mambo-ed for like ages. So I'm inspired to write a poem about mambo - and this time, it's really a poem!

Mambo nights are better than gold
Army boys shout: ORD LOH!
A pretty lady I see from afar
Give me hope, Joanna! Give me hope, Joanna!

The summer rain plays on
The worries of life are gone
Grooving to the beat of Square Rooms
The lyrics flow as everyone croons

The disco fever all over the air
The podium fills up, pair by pair
Joy is all abound, so carefree
As they shake to Love In The First Degree

Retro shirts, white pants, and high heels
Cruising out in flashy wheels
The night has just begun, all set for dancing
Don't leave before Tubthumping!

Haha. Ok the truth is I posted that on Slush Pile Singapore, where people just write original compositions.

Yesterday night was the final straw.

It's 1am in the morning, I'm tired, trying desperately to fall asleep, and my neighbour's dog can't stop barking. Left with no choice, I stormed out of the house and attempted to shut the dog up, if not for my mum who intervened and turned on the garden light for the entire night.

You know how sick is it to walk out of the house at 1am just to shut a dog up? It's sick. I can't sleep, and I wake up looking like a zombie. Some people say I'm heartless, but I can never understand the bizarre world of animals. It's freaking 1am in the morning, unless there's a burglar, GO TO SLEEP! There's absolutely nothing in my backyard! Zilch! Empty! Not even a speck of dust! What on earth are you barking at? And for that matter, I question whether dogs can differentiate between a burglar and its neighbour.

You know how such incidents just spoil my day? It's 12.54pm and I can't keep my eyes open. I desperately need to lie in bed for an hour at least. And guess what? It's perfect weather, bright and sunny, but because I'm too exhausted and tired to do anything, I'm gonna waste my entire evening away by sleeping!

If it happens again tonight, I promise you, I will call the police!

Went to watch SEMI-PRO on Good Friday.

Photobucket

Needless to say, extremely hilarious movie! I was in stitches throughout. Will Ferrell is DA man! Typical movie about underdogs winning, but it's really really good nonetheless. Please watch it!

95 days from today, I'll be back at camp, grabbing my pink i/c, saying my goodbyes, giving everyone a treat, everyone giving me a treat, and after that...

It's a long 5 minute ride to CDC.

A second failure today, meaning I will definitely not achieve my goal of getting that elusive driving license by the time I'm a civilian. What would have been a potential traffic police test is now my 3RD attempt at final theory - on my freedom date, to say the least.

I'm screwing up big time. And what made me feel worst was I spent the whole week studying in camp, missing TV shows at home, and I even took half day leave! And - I don't even know what went wrong, since we don't see the questions.

MEOW!

At least, I came home today to hear some good news. My dad has finally decided to stop being nomadic and find a job back here in Singapore. Which he has, successfully, confirmed that today. So that's great, but I'll definitely make as many trips back to KL while I can before his apartment rental contract expires.

Ah screw driving.

WELCOME TO KOH PHANGAN !

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

WHERE ??

KOH PHANGAN !

Seriously, if you have never heard of this place, join the club! Neither have I!

Everybody's talking about Koh Phangan. They rave about it straight in my face and tell me about the happening full moon parties, which I thought only existed in Goa. There's one party every single month and guess what - even facebook groups on Koh Phangan have started surfacing!

Koh Phangan is located in Thailand, and the only thing I know about Thailand starts with B and ends with a-n-g-k-o-k.

So it's really something new and looking at the photos - I'm definitely not missing it!

And ho ho ho, looking at the party dates, the one in June will be held on the 18th - which is my freedom day!

Anyone??

This beats Chatuchak Market and Mah Boon Krong any day !

Since Lisa suggested that I write a haiku instead, here it goes:

I love Koh Phangan

The greatest full moon party

Hippopotamus!

I WANT TO BE A TAI TAI.

Yes I'm serious!

My mum gave me a glimpse of a tai tai's life. She's not one yet, of course. But, just a sneak peak, I accompanied her on tai tai's day out with her tai tai friends!

First stop was Grand Hyatt hotel's high tea buffet. This was an English-style high tea, which means I had to forgo my usual mee siam, popiah, nasi lemak, kueh kueh and more.

Instead, I was treated to a sumptous spread of scones, prawn cocktail, sandwiches, roast lamb, pies, cakes, chocolate fondue, crepes, and sushi.

Don't ask me why sushi was included, but hey, who's complaining?

And best of all - free flow of beverages, including 16 different types of tea and coffee! I was literally lost for choice in a caffeine haven. And - best of all - you could enjoy the beverages served chilled - which was what I did since it was more worth it. So down my stomach went glasses of iced cuppachino, iced chocolate, iced latte - I lost count.

Well the caffeine would come in handy - later in the day.

Next up was a local movie, Rule #1, and I thought it'll be good to see how bad Fiona Xie looks in a movie.

Photobucket

All I can say is, rule number one in life - never ever watch a local movie. 0/5.

After that, the tai tais decided to do some light shopping of their own while I checked out the factory outlet store in Le Meridien, settled a dirt cheap T-shirt. I love F.O.S man.

And in typical tai tai fashion, what would be the fitting ending to a great day out?

MAHJONG OF COURSE!

And off we went back to my place, where our initial plan of 'just one game' turned into a record-breaking 8 hour mahjong marathon that ended at 6 in the morning after 5 consecutive games. The total damage to my wallet - also another record-breaker - was $80. An expensive lesson indeed, trust me to be able to outwit tai tais in mahjong!

And that explains why I almost fainted in the match just now. Haha.

It was a great look into the life of a tai tai, and I'm thinking of being one myself. In fact, I'm so eager to be one that I actually wrote a poem to motivate myself! Jules inspired me to write poems on my blog, like she does on hers, so here it goes:

Roses are red,
Violets are blue
I want to be a tai tai
for the rest of my life.

HAHAHAHAHA! Poem my foot lah.

I had the most dysfunctional day ever!

It began in the morning, where my driver and I went out for the usual despatch. It was raining kittens and puppies and it will be for the next few days, which is not too bad anyway. We were out in the expressway, clear traffic for once, and in an instant, we drove past the ERP gantry without a cashcard in the reader.

Brilliant. It seems like nothing can go right when it comes to driving, even though I was just a passenger. Final theory next week!

Oh that's not all.

In the evening, my usual plans to swim were called off because of the thunderstorm, so I headed to the gym instead. Don't want to be rotting at home when I have a match this Sunday afternoon and I don't want to be breathless after just 5 minutes. So it was my first time in the Bedok gym, and they have this strange policy of buying the entrance ticket at the Badminton court. So I proceeded to make my way, paid, and I was issued a receipt.

Like any typical Singaporean, I threw away the receipt when I walked out.

How cool is that. I bought my entrance ticket and I threw it away 2 seconds later. And worst of all, I only realised it when I reached the gym.

Ladies and gentlemen, round of applause for Mr Jermaine Tan Liren please. Klutz of the year 2008. Bah.

1 ticket was $2.50, so I paid $5 for a 30 minute gym work out!

I had better lose 10kg by tomorrow morning!

Anyway, I think Jules beat me for Klutz of the year 2008. She decided on a pair of jeans in the shop and she paid and walked out with a completely different pair.

AWESOME. Round of applause for Jules too, please.

* PS - looks at tagboard: Freddy, I stay true to what I say.

I love watching debates, much less competing in one, but I think I would still be satisfied with just watching it on TV. Mediacorp's certainly not the most entertaining TV station on the planet now but The Arena is just brilliant, with season 2 kicking off yesterday. Boys against girls with RI against St.Nicks and one point separated the 2 teams in the end, with girls losing out in a fiercely contested topic about foreigners representing Singapore in sports. But I love watching these 15-16 year old students going up there and showing so much passion in their speaking and rebutting each other intensely, highly recommended show by the way. Let's hope a neighbouring school wins it this year.

Another brilliant show - is of course One Tree Hill. Yesterday's episode, coincidentally, was also about sports. Nathan was forced to deliberately lose the state championship finals in order to pay off his debts, but he came to his senses in the final quarter and it was a big decision he will not live to regret - although his wife is paying the price. I was brought back to memory lane for a short period watching that episode, during my final game at Toa Payoh stadium. Though I was predictably benched, I could sense the euphoria when we won the final point, and everything was just so right for us, and we will continue living our lives with no regrets, knowing that we put in our best for that match.

So today's Joke Of The Day - is also about sports!

Italian soccer player Totti was told by an interviewer to 'Carpe Diem'. And he famously replied 'Sorry I don't speak English'.

Sunday, March 09, 2008

Ah, can't believe I was actually dragged into going for the IT Show, since Terence wanted a digital cam. We were in and out in just 10 minutes, and I still can't believe Singaporeans dig all these IT stuff that seem so alien to me.

SIM Open House was a much-needed breather for me! My first time entering UniSIM, though I don't intend to study there since it's so far away from Earth. Haha. All I got was a free red bull though.

Photobucket

For such a big show, there should be more publicity, but nonetheless it was really worth my weekend ticket price. 10,000BC tells the story about the age of dinosaurs and weird creatures roaming the earth, and considering Independence Day and The Day After Tomorrow were pretty awesome, this one lives up to its name as well. A wonderful show with very good visual effects, this is one you shouldn't miss! 4/5.

Saturday, March 08, 2008

I've always been known to eat so much at buffet, but today is the first time I really should watch what I drink.

So after the event, there were refreshments as usual, grabbed all the food, chomped down everything like I always do. And by the way - I ate the best ever durian puffs in the world. Goodwood Park cake shop - you can pack up and close down now thank you very much. While eating and talking to everyone, I unknowingly kept going back to the beverage table and topping up my tea - until I realised I had drunk 4 cups of tea by then.

One cup of tea is already enough to make me awake and I'm not exactly a light sleeper. Now imagine 4 cups of tea. It's 1.28am and I could run to China and back 100 times without even breaking into one drop of sweat okay.

I AM AWAKE!!

Joke Of The Day:

Wil - I sense something's amiss says:
if NTU biz accepts me, I might just take them up

Wil - I sense something's amiss says:
and withdraw frm SMU

jermsair says:
aiyoh freddy cannot be so choosy lah!

jermsair says:
choose a path and stick to it...

Wil - I sense something's amiss says:
jerms

Wil - I sense something's amiss says:
don't you know me as a picky and choosy fella

Wil - I sense something's amiss says:
i'm so bloody indecisive

jermsair says:
CORPORAAAAL!!

jermsair says:
must wake up!

jermsair says:
what has army done to you...

jermsair says:
taught u to be decisive!

jermsair says:
cannot be fickle!

jermsair says:
we are men, not boys!

HAHAHAHA ACTUALLY I'M ALSO VERY FICKLE.

I finally made ONE post-ORD plan, after wondering what am I going to do when I become a civilian.

Applied for SIA scholarship!

Not the first time, though. Applied last year but I did it in such a rush they probably clicked 'delete' faster than how-many-hat-tricks-Torres-is-going-to-score. So now I'm in the midst of completing it, just that my TP lecturer wants me to collect the testimonial she wrote in TP. Sigh. If only school was open, maybe I have motivation to take leave, have a nice meal at Mensa, and hopefully bump into some of my juniors. But school is closed and I am so not gonna take leave just to collect one pathetic testimonial, and I'll figure something out soon.

And the whole list of scholarships available will be out tomorrow, so I'm considering applying for other companies as well. Although I have to say this wasn't my initial plan but I'm just going-with-the-flow which is what I always do and if it turns out well, being the 1-in-dunno-how-many-thousand selected, then great! If not, I will have other plans!

And you know what's NOT in those plans?

Going to the IT fair!

I am so NOT gonna squeeze like African tomatoes with hordes of people browsing through endless gadgets and I bet ya half of these people don't even intend to buy anything but they will be there just to fill up unnecessary space from City Hall MRT all the way to Suntec City.

Someone please organise like an Adidas + Nike + Puma + Fila +++++++ fair instead !

My laptop survived, but it had to be reformated. So say goodbye to my years of photos and memories, and 2,500 songs.

Ok I still keep many photos elsewhere!
And I have the software to transfer from my ipod!

But it's gonna be hard work all over again.

Joke Of The Day:

Jermaine: Eh u want to borrow Ghost Whisperer? I have.

Sarah: Eeee don't want, so scary.

I love my T-shirt.

At Daiso, we saw this stupid cap that bald men in Japan wear:

It's so ugly, let's hope I will never be bald!

Off for The Leap Years.

Photobucket

The premise of the movie is simple - about lovers making a promise to meet every February 29th. A very touching love story indeed - my only problem was that it was too touching and over-passionate that it saturated the whole movie with nothing but pathos. As such, it moves at a rather breakneck speed, and every four years seem like four minutes to the audience. Other than that, I thought it was quite light-hearted, with Corrine May songs every heartbreaking scene and quotes about life flashing throughout. The ending was rather good, and that's enough to give this local production a thumbs-up. 4/5 for me.

Quote Of The Day (from The Leap Years):

There are 3 words that sum up life - it goes on.

Justin Timberlake - Losing My Way (live)

Movie marathon day !

Fool's Gold

Photobucket

I'm quite into musicals and also shows that involve the sea and water and scuba diving etc (though you can leave out the sharks), so I shouldn't give this show a miss. the reviews weren't good but I have to say it was better than I expected, though not exactly spectacular. It's very predictable, about a group trying to find lost treasure in the sea and it was a joy ride from start to finish, and maybe what could have helped was more excitement and less predictability. Overall, not a bad movie. 3.5/5 for me.

Next up was The Death Note spin-off - L: Change The World

Photobucket

In a nutshell, this show lives up to its name - spin-offs are generally very disappointing versions of the original, and the 3rd sequel to any show is usually the worst of the lot. I was left sorely shortchanged, considering that Death Note 1 and 2, or should I say the whole Death Note series was by far one of my favourite because the whole story is very intruguing. L: Change The World turned out to be a CSI thriller type of show about a global health epidemic, and that's equating to only one word - boring. It crawls at such a slow pace, the show actually goes round and round just to show different facts, like solving maths equations. Overall, it's a pity this series couldn't end as well as it started. 1/5 for me.

And this will be Joke Of The Day (in office):

So I was making my morning tea, as usual, very routine, at 0900. I boiled water and put the tea bag in, and instead of awaiting a piping hot cuppa Lipton Tea, my mug actually exploded to billions of pieces, creating a mess in the pantry.

I really thought a ghost had invaded the office, until I was reminded about the chemistry of hot and cold stuff colliding. Oh well. That explains why I'm not a science student!

Later on at daiso:

Jermaine: Guess what I'm gonna buy? A new mug!

Yuqian: Yah, how is a $2 mug gonna survive for so long??

Jermaine: ....................
