DO YOU?

So back from my trip and visited GOBI CAFE along Joo Chiat road. I'm a sucker for desserts and all that sweet stuff that will make me die of diabetes tomorrow so I certainly can't say no!

Quaint little cafe tucked away in the hustle of the 'Little Vietnam' in Singapore, the amazing decor will immediately catch your eye as you walk past the lanes enroute to Katong, which stands out juxtaposed along old buildings littering the vicinity.

The cafe serves a variety of main courses and light snacks but I came off a half-decent meal of Vietnamese pho just opposite so I was more than contented to settle for just the desserts. In saying that, there's really no harm coming back here to try the lunch items, considering how wonderful the desserts were.

Photobucket

This desserts-only menu describes each item in detail and there is a wide variety of delightful creations that infuses local sweets into their desserts.

The first item that caught my eye was the creme brulee and that's partly because I'm a sucker for this and I haven't really encountered any decent ones around town so I was quite eager to give it a go. This wasn't just your regular creme brulee but it was carefully baked with a whole sliced pear in a lovely tart.

Once you sink your teeth into this gem, you'll start to wonder why didn't anyone think of this earlier? The sweet icing breaks finely into a mashed caramel sensation and the first bite is enough to satiate your palate and leave you wanting a second helping almost immediately!

A next peek at the menu and I made the easiest decision of my life - The Chocolate Factory. This special combination includes six different types of chocolate desserts and a few pieces of macaroons to complete this seventh heaven.

The staff advised that this item will take approximately 20 minutes to prepare and why not? Anything that good should be carefully prepared from scratch so my dining partner and I were happy to hold our palate. When it did arrive, I was thoroughly impressed by how neatly arranged the mini cakes were sitting on a large plate and I couldn't wait to try each and every one, only problem was to decide how to start.

The cakes had different flavoured fillings ranging from coconut to luscious cherry, and the macaroons were equally varied and left both of us spoilt for choice. This is truly a chocolate haven for aficionados like myself and if you want the best of everything, you can't go wrong with this selection.

Feeling a huge load of mixed emotions now. Separations are never a pleasant event but in life you need to take risks and sometimes that means going with the most painful option. Friends who know me long enough understand that I'm a go-getter and I don't just talk the talk. If something needs to be done, I will go all out and do it, regardless of how difficult the process is. And that applies to this situation. Bottom line is, do not underestimate me, and do not take me for a joy ride. I am not some puppet you can just string and toy around, and mutual respect is very important. Unfortunately, I wasn't getting any.

All I can do now is be positive, and thank God the last few days I've been coping well. For a start, I don't have to deal with any long, endless nights discussing stuff about, well, pretty much nothing in concrete. Go out with anyone I want without fear of unnecessary accusations and just be carefree once again. Gosh, remind me how much I miss this life.

I can deal with it. My life doesn't revolve around my partner, and it should never be like that. Thank you, all my dear friends, who have stayed with me through these few months and given me so much encouragement. I've learnt so much from all of you and just taking time out and giving me advice is the best thing that I've received so far.

HAWAII O-FIVE

Photobucket

Third trip here so I'm quite lucky in that sense. With rostering it's always a hit-and-miss so you'll never know, and honestly who can actually say no to Hawaii? (Yes of course it's a horrendously long flight with the worst passenger profile ever but screw that, which flight is an easy flight? Never, really.)

Started my day with breakkie at Macs, and you wouldn't believe what they serve. Luncheon meat with rice!

And Americans wonder why their obesity rate is so high..

A day at the beach.

The whole place is now flooded with Japanese and Philipinos, it doesn't even feel like you're in America. Which is a pity, really. I'm now being served by Japanese and Philipino staff in the shops and it really defeats the purpose of me being here then.

Guess I'll always be a city boy at heart, so LA, SF and NY, come back to papa soon okay.

What's for lunch? Japanese food duh.

In defence, it was really good, and very affordable since it's at the food court. So tempted to try one of those regular American fare like Dennys, IHOP, Tuesdays or Cheesecake Factory but the thing with US is that tipping alone will kill you. So, best to dine in a group and tip in a group.

And what better way to end the day than to sit on the beach and watch the sunset and forget all the shit in your life? Yes, it helps.

Made my decision that very moment, and there was no turning back. I'm proud of myself.

This dish is a must-have on every Hawaii trip - mixed seafood salad!

Photobucket

A huge plate of grilled seafood tossed in a bed of greens for $14. The garlic prawns oooooooh! Goodness me! I could eat like a hundred of those, easily!

Zhiwei and Rachel's wedding
Swissotel Merchant Court

Hard to believe but this is actually my first ever wedding dinner as an adult. Attended two weddings when I was in NS but that hardly really counts; wasn't extremely close to either of my NS colleagues and in some ways forced to attend (not that I mind, really.) And not to mention I shared a $100 ang pow with 3 other NSFs so that must have really sucked big time!

So what happened during these 4 years? Why hasn't anyone invited me huh?! So disappointed, LOL. Do I have a bad reputation for giving cheapo ang pows? No, impossible, since I don't even attend in the first place. Oh well! I guess that's saving money after all.
